Unions in Sweden Expand Amid Anti-Tesla Backlash

Swedish Unions Broaden Anti-Tesla Fight

Electricians and port workers in Sweden united on Friday to support labor unions' efforts in pressuring Tesla to sign collective agreements for its mechanics in the country amid backlash. This worker action occurred three weeks after the car workers' union IF Metall declared a strike against Tesla. Following this strike aimed at securing a collective agreement for about 120 of its members who work mechanically for the electric car maker in terms of wages and working conditions, workers in multiple ports refused to unload cars from ships, and electricians stopped repair work at the company's charging stations. These events underscored the significance of organized labor power in Sweden, a country where collective agreements cover around 90% of all employees. While Tesla does not manufacture any vehicles in Sweden, it operates several facilities for vehicle maintenance.
