Titus Tunnel

Titus Tunnel is a historical structure located in the Samandag district of Hatay. Built in the 1st century AD by the Roman Emperor Vespasian, the tunnel was constructed to protect the city from flooding and inundation. Construction began in 69 AD and was completed by Titus in 81 AD. The tunnel is 1380 meters long, 7 meters high, and 6 meters wide. It was carved into the mountain entirely by Roman legions and slaves. The Titus Tunnel is a structure of great historical and architectural importance.

Baysikli Cave

Baysikli Cave, located approximately 100 meters from the sea entrance of the Titus Tunnel, is one of the most famous rock tombs. The cave contains twelve tombs and is divided into sections with stone columns and arches. Walls are present between the tombs and can be accessed via stone stairs. The columns, column capitals, and motifs in the cave were made faithfully to the originals by carving the rocks. Baysikli Cave is a fascinating place for archaeology enthusiasts and history lovers.

How to Get There?

To reach the Titus Tunnel, it is 5 kilometers away from the Samandag district. Transportation can be easily provided with the shuttle services departing from Samandag. If you prefer to go by private vehicle, you can reach the Titus Tunnel by following the direction signs. Visitors to the area where the Titus Tunnel is located can also visit Seleucia Pieria, an important ancient port city.
