History

The Great Clock Tower of Adana is located on Ali Münif Street in the Seyhan district. It was initiated by Governor Ziya Pasha in 1881 and completed by Governor Abidin Pasha in 1882. This historic clock tower has become one of the symbols of Adana.

Architectural Features

The Great Clock Tower is built of cut stone. The tower, which is 32 meters long, is in the shape of a square prism, and its walls are made of bricks. The depth of its foundation is 35 meters. The tower is the tallest among the clock towers built during the Ottoman period and is one of the symbols of the city. It was built with a difficult masonry process using small brick stones. Despite events like the 1998 Adana earthquake, it has managed to maintain its durability.
