The History of Perre Ancient City

Perre Ancient City is one of the five major cities of the Kingdom of Commagene. In ancient sources, it is mentioned as Me’arath Gazze Pörön, Pirin, and Perin in Mesopotamia. The city, with its strategic location, had great significance in the past as it was located on the route connecting Melitene (Malatya) with the capital Samosata (Samsat). Additionally, it was also a city of the Persidas province under the administration of Bishop Ioannes Perdos, who presided over the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD.

It became the center of the Persidas province, which participated in the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD and was referred to as Hierapolis (Sacred City).
