Characteristics of Kula Volcanoes

Kula Volcanoes are a region located in the Kula district of Manisa, Turkey, and have a volcanic geology. The volcanoes in this area were active until the beginning of the fourth era and young volcanoes were formed. As a result of volcanic activity in Kula and its surroundings, lava flows and small volcanoes were formed, and this region was called the 'Burned Land' (Katakekaumene) in history.

Location of Kula Volcanoes

Kula volcanoes are located on the İzmir-Ankara road. The largest of these volcanic hills are Sandal and Kara Divlit. The volcanic area, which extends from the center of Kula district to the west of Demirköprü Dam, is on a plateau at an altitude of 600-700 meters. This plateau is surrounded by the Gediz River to the north and the Alaşehir-Salihli Graben to the south.

How to Get There?

To reach Kula Volcanoes, you can use the İzmir-Ankara road. If you are coming from İzmir, after reaching Manisa, you can follow the signs for Kula to reach the volcanoes. If you are not driving, there are regular bus services from Manisa to Kula. After reaching the center of Kula district, you can reach the volcanoes by using local transportation or taxis.
