Koza Han: Istanbul's Historic Caravanserai

History

Koza Han was built in 1491 by Sultan Bayezid II to support the mosques and madrasahs in Istanbul. The han is located in a large area between Gazi Orhan Mosque and Ulu Mosque.

Architectural Features

Koza Han is a two-story structure made of cut stone and brick. The arcade section consists of 40 concrete domes, and there are 50 rooms on the upper floor and 45 rooms on the lower floor. The rooms on the upper floor are mainly used as shops selling silk and silk products. In the courtyard of the han, there is a domed mosque with six fountains. The gates opening to the south and north of the han provide easy access to the surrounding mosque and bazaar.

Current State

In present times, the courtyard of Koza Han serves as a resting area, cafes, and tea gardens. The han has become a pleasant stop for tourists and visitors.
