Anıtkabir Atatürk and War of Independence Museum

History of the Museum

When viewed from the ceremony area to the Monument block at Anıtkabir, the museum, entered through the gate of the Misak-ı Milli Tower on the right, was opened on June 21, 1960 as the Atatürk Museum of Anıtkabir. In 2001, it was decided to add the approximately 3,000 square meter columned area located under the honor hall, where Atatürk's mausoleum is located, to the museum in accordance with the project prepared by the Anıtkabir Command. With the realization of this project, the museum reached an exhibition area of 5,200 square meters. With the new sections added on August 26, 2002, the museum, opened with a state ceremony, has since been named the Atatürk and War of Independence Museum.
